BIOGRAPHY

I am an artist and musician from St Helens, Merseyside, with a BA honours degree in Fine Art from Hope University, Liverpool, where I have recently started guest lecturing. I have developed a mixed media practice that incorporates field recordings, sound, paint, chalk, video, and sculpture. Inspired by the surrealist and Dada movements, I often incorporate both in my work. Lately, my work has focussed on reimagining landscapes and manmade icons of industry within, often exploring map-making, borders, and the toxic allure of nostalgia. Currently, my focus is on community-based projects which encourage critical cartographic practice through storytelling; this has included teaching art and art theory at Thorn Cross Prison with the Hope Theatre Company, as well as working on various art projects with people with dementia in the Merseyside area.

In the 90s I was awarded funding by the Prince's Trust for a music project, Mazey Fade. Mazey Fade were one of the few bands to record three sessions at the BBC Maida Vale studios for the late John Peel, before signing to Domino Records. Since Mazey Fade, I cofounded the London-based independent arts collective, The Five Families. I have independently released multiple albums with various collectives in which I play the drums, percussion, bass, and vocals. Currently, I am a member of the Liverpool based, 'Flower Show'. See discography for more details.
